Greg Horowitt is Managing Director of T2 Venture Capital, a seed and early stage venture fund focused on high impact investments from public and private research initiatives. He has led T2VC’s investments in AutoPoint Software, Biomatrica, and Somark Innovations. Mr Horowitt is cofounder of the University of California, San Diego Global CONNECT program, which develops and grows innovation clusters worldwide. Under his leadership, Global CONNECT has grown to be one of the world’s largest innovation hubs network, accelerating global technology commercialization. Formerly he was the interim Managing Director of CONNECT, which is generally credited with San Diego’s success as a technology leader. It helped launch over 300 companies that raised over $600 million in early-stage funding and achieved over $12 billion in market capitalization. Greg mentored more than 200 companies. Prior to CONNECT, Greg was as an entrepreneur and investor, with Silicon Valley start-ups and venture capital. He was Entrepreneur-in-Residence for SK Global and President and CEO of the Praetorian Group, an enterprise software company providing e-business solutions to law enforcement and public safety agencies across the country. Before that, he was with a Berkshire Hathaway company, Flying Cross by Fechheimer, where he finished h as Vice President of Regional Sales. Greg serves as a board member of the CONNECT Foundation, and UC San Diego Entrepreneurship Challenge. He is an international judge for the IBM Global Entrepreneur program, an advisor to the UCSD Rady School of Management and serves on the investment committee for their Venture Fund. He is an advisor and mentor to the University of California’s Discovery Fellows Program; a Senior Advisor to the Larta Institute; Industrial Advisory Board member, Life Sciences- IT Global Institute; and the past Chairman of Project Inform, one of the nation’s leading HIV treatment information and advocacy organizations. As a Kauffman Fellow he mentors leaders of the venture capital industry. He advises universities, entrepreneurial development organizations, and government organizations around the world including the World Bank, US State Department, OECD, and the National Academies of Science in economic development, venture capital formation, and innovation policy. Mr Horowitt holds a degree in Biochemistry and minors in Economics and Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego.
